I love DIY projects (if you couldn't tell) and I love when I can use something that will grow with my little girl. This recipe will last a lifetime and I no doubt will use this over and over again as my daughter grows. We all know play dough is a child favorite and it is extra special when you can make your very own, right?!?!?!
Here is how I made our Homemade Play Dough:
Combine 1 cup of flour* with 1/2 cup of salt and 2 tbsp of cream of tartar to a bowl and mix.
Add in 1 tbsp of cooking oil (I used extra virgin olive oil)
Boil 1 cup of water and out into a heatproof bowl, then add a few drops of food coloring.
Slowly pour the hot water mixture into the dry ingredients, mix well.
Begin to knead with your hands until no longer sticky (add flour as needed).
To store: wrap in plastic wrap and store in air tight container.
I ended up using whole wheat flour in the not so “neon green” dough 🤣 The texture is slightly tougher than the purple one made with white flour. Also when using the whole wheat flour you will see the wheat grains, I didn’t like that to much (with my chosen food color), however it does give the dough a nice 'natural' look. It would be great to use for nature themes.
Bonus: This activity is perfect for all ages. As my daughter gets older this will become a great activity for us to do together, and she can make her very own play dough.
